Obituary

Barbara Blue Gurley, 87, passed away August 17, 2026. Barbara was born on July 9, 1939 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina to the late Archie Lee Blue and Suni Bell Deese. Barbara grew up in South Carolina and attended Ruby Crossroads School. Throughout her life, Barbara’s greatest legacy was her family. She was the mother of five children and was blessed with grandchildren, great-grandchildren and generations of family who became an important part of her life.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church, 1616 McBee Hwy, Jefferson, SC 29718. A service to celebrate Barbara’s life will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at the church cemetery.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Debbie Jean Outen of Monroe, Joel Mitchum Outen of Norwood, and Oscar Oliver Outen (Deanna) of Monroe; grandchildren, Joshua Sunday Outen, Amanda Odom, Devon Marie Boyle, Justin Ray McKennon, Jimmy Dean Outen, James Oliver Cryster, Kayla Clayton, Gaston Wade Outen, Anson Murray Outen; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in passing by her daughter, Barbara Ann Outen; son, Billy Sunday Outen Jr.; former husbands, Billy Sunday Outen, William Joseph Cabanas Sr., Allen Frank Edwards; grandchildren, Wesley Timmon Outen, and Tawnya Noel Outen.

Barbara’s life stretched across many years, many changes, and several generations. Her greatest and most lasting legacy can be found in the children, grandchildren, family members, and loved ones whose lives continue to carry her story forward. She will be remembered as a daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and member of a family whose roots reach deeply into South Carolina and North Carolina. Barbara will be laid to rest beside her daughter, Barbara Ann Outen.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at Alzheimer's Association .
