Minnie Lee Evans, 79, passed away on September 18, 2026. She was born on May 5, 1947, to the late Hershell and Birtis Bennett.

Minnie graduated from Lancaster High School and later married the love of her life, Mitchell Evans, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage. Throughout her life, she held various jobs outside the home while remaining deeply devoted to what mattered most to her—her family and Evans Boys Farm.

Minnie found joy in the simple things that made a home feel like home. She loved cooking, gardening, and, above all, caring for her family. Some of her greatest joy came from her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as “Gurney.” Being Gurney was a role she treasured, and the love and care she poured into her family will remain a special part of her legacy.

A lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church, Minnie’s faith was an important part of her life. Her love for children was evident through the many years she spent caring for little ones in the church nursery.

Minnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mitchell Evans, and her parents, Hershell and Birtis Bennett, three brothers, and three sisters. 

She is survived by her sister Brenda Faulkenberry (Ricky), her son, Brad (Dana) Evans; daughter, Lisa (Jack) Horton; grandchildren, Jake (Lacey) Horton, Hunter (Courtney) Horton, and Aleiya Evans; and great-grandchildren, Remi, Weston, and Everleigh Horton.

Minnie will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and woman of faith whose life centered around caring for those she loved. The memories made around her table, on the family farm, in her garden, and with those she loved will be treasured for generations to come.

A graveside service will be held Monday, September 21, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church.
