On October 1, 2026, Robert Glen Sanders (83) went home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a devoted family and a lifetime of cherished memories.
To know Glen was to know a truly one-of-a-kind man. He possessed a vibrant personality, a wonderful sense of humor, and a firm belief in doing things the right way—which, in his mind, was usually the only right way. As the family’s self-appointed supervisor, he never hesitated to offer his honest opinion, especially when it came to home-cooked meals. His lighthearted critiques, gentle teasing, and quick wit brought endless laughter to family gatherings and created memories that will be treasured forever.
A master wood craftsman, Glen could build, repair, or figure out just about anything. Whether he was crafting custom cabinets, building fine furniture, or working in his garden, he took immense pride in his work. He had the rare patience and skill required to turn an idea into something beautiful—a quality he also poured into his garden, carefully passing those skills down to his family.
Faith and music were central to Glen’s life. Every Sunday morning at Zoar United Methodist Church, he could be found in his usual pew, singing his heart out. He took tremendous pride in his family’s musical gifts, delighting in their talents and encouraging them at every turn.
To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren—his beloved "humdingers"—he was far more than a grandfather. He was a constant source of wisdom, humor, guidance, and comfort. Through his stories, traditions, and steady example, he built a legacy that will endure for generations.
Glen was preceded in death by his loving wife, Colleen Sanders; parents, Drew Robert and Faye Sanders; his nephew, Chad Baker; and his brother-in-law, Bill Baker.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Robert M. Sanders (Robin); his daughter, Joy Tonelli (Mickey); his granddaughters, Alicia Jordan (Michael), Cassie Eley (Mark), and Joyce Hester (Ian); his five great-grandchildren, Kelsey Jordan, Addison Jordan, Robert Eley, Shane Jordan, and Leighton Eley; and his three sisters, Sherry Thomas, Pam Poindexter, and Helen Baker, alongside many extended family members and dear friends.
While our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing Glen’s earthly journey is complete and that he is at peace with his Lord and Savior. We take joy in imagining him hearing those precious words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” His work here is finished, his projects complete, and his hands finally at rest.
Rest peacefully, Deddy. Rest peacefully, Papaw, brother, and friend. Your music will keep playing, your gardens will keep growing, your lessons will live on, and your memory will live in our hearts until we meet again.
There will be a graveside service for Mr. Sanders on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 10:00 AM, at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family is being served by Holland Funeral Service.
